Delta-8 THC is similar to its psychoactive relative THC, but with several key differences. The biggest difference between Delta-8 and Delta-9 is D8 is not as strong of a high with less possible paranoia. Due to its lower psychotropic potency, many inexperienced cannabis consumers are getting their introduction through Delta-8.
There are MANY differing compounds in the cannabis plant, THC or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol being the most well-known of the cannabinoids, but certainly isn’t the only beneficial chemical compound found in cannabis. Delta-8 THC is on the rise in popularity, because of this we have ramped up our D8 product lines to include Delta-8 tincture, Delta-8 Vape Cartridges. Most of the demand for D8 is due to the lower potency and less paranoia than Delta-9. Like Delta 9-THC, Delta-8 THC binds to CB1 receptors. Unlike Delta 9-THC, however, Delta 8-THC is more stable and less potent.
According to the National Cancer Institute, delta-8-THC can be defined as:
“An analogue of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) with antiemetic, anxiolytic, appetite-stimulating, analgesic, and neuroprotective properties. [Delta-8-THC] binds to the cannabinoid G-protein coupled receptor CB1, located in the central nervous system…This agent exhibits a lower psychotropic potency than [delta-9-THC], the primary form of THC found in cannabis.” Delta-8 THC is a good example of how many “minor” cannabinoids in the cannabis plant are being compounding/concentrated in order to offer products with these specific isolated compounds. This is a wonderful addition to the medical cannabis industry, as individual cannabinoids can sometimes offer specific health benefits. For example, a quality Delta-8 vape cartridge typically delivers a semi-sedative physical sensation without much mental stimulation. Its more of a comfortably numb, pain mitigating and anti-nausea sensation.
A lot of the time Delta-8 THC is derived from hemp. During the extraction process of thousands of pounds of hemp flower and biomass, the trace amounts of Delta-8 is isolated and collected. Any product manufactured from Delta-8 THC can technically be sold anywhere in the country due to being hemp derived. Delta-8-THC is a valuable cannabis-derived chemical compound for the masses. The benefits and effects have both medical and recreational value, and it illustrates the power of individual chemical constituents within cannabis. They say Delta-8 is about half as strong as D9, but retains the medical benefits. Cannabis has generally been lumped into one category, getting high. As we continue to isolate more chemical compounds such as Delta-8, we will continue to realize varying medicinal and recreational effects. This is just one of the reasons the cannabis industry continues to surprise and excite us.
