For us, this endeavor is not just a matter of getting food into the hands of hungry families; it’s about getting nutrition to those in desperate need of it. In order to help, we plan to engage in various fundraisers, during which we shall work with other growers in addition to grassroots organizations who share our commitment to community well-being. Donations from sales percentages will be used to further bolster fundraising.
We chose Wayside Food Programs because of their high standards as well as their commitment to offering quality, nutritious foods. Wayside has been providing food for those in need throughout Southern Maine since 1986. In 2019 alone, Wayside was able to redirect 550 tons of food, which would have otherwise gone to waste, into the homes of needy families in our local communities. Wayside distributes food throughout the State via 60 partnering food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other social service agencies.
Through volunteers, collaborations, partnerships, cross promotions and networking, Wayside uses food to reduce waste, fight hunger and strengthen Maine’s communities. Their work is rooted in partnerships — utilizing approaches that reinforce social connection and individual dignity, while also striving to limit our impact on the natural environment. Wayside believes that the health and vibrancy of our community depends upon the physical, social and economic well-being of all community members.
